The
artist embraces a twenty-first century multidelic
variety of medium, textures and colors.
Her medium encompasses acrylic, paint, watercolor, color pencil,
pastel, textile, photography and cut paper. Images created many times
become collages that embody paper, paint, wood, textiles or scraps of .
But most striking about her art are the colors.
“The twenty-first century is one of overwhelming visual and
visceral stimulation and multiplicity of moods, sounds and activity that I
attempt to capture as a fiesta or jamboree with multidelic
layering of colors and textures.”
Lucinda
is well schooled in the rigorous techniques of art, receiving awards and
scholarships, she obtained a
Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree
from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1985 her post-graduate studies
are in glass, paint and collage at Duke University, Yellow Barn Gallery
& Studio and Maryland Hall for Creative Arts. She
has exhibited in
New York
,
Massachusetts
,
North Carolina
,

, the

area and

,
MD.
Her
twenty- year experience in the consumer packaging industry honed her fine
art technical training into pragmatic industrial application.
“Experience as a graphic designer and corporate art director forced me
into creating art that was eye catching and conveyed instantly a message.
Success also was measurable.”
But the artistic confidence to attempt to capture a compound variety of
medium, texture and color came from her experience as a director of
business development and director of manufacturing procedures at packaging
corporations. “Creating packaging is art, the fundamentals of business
and mass production of packing is science. But the managing of people,
both designers and those operating large, clanging, banging, oil dripping
machines, is art again because people come in a variety of glorious
idiosyncrasies and individualities.. All of this life experience is
transformed into my art as I try to grapple with and bring order to the
chaotic stimulus of my mind and senses.”
As
an artist she is driven to explore with and develop techniques that create
texture and depth. The world is not flat and neither is her work, although
at first glance or from a distance they seem 2-D as the viewer comes
closer the compositions expose layers of intricate details. Her collages
are either photographic collages or paint and paper collages. Her collages
are inspired by parades, festivals and summer carnivals, they capture a
playful and lively atmosphere. Some compositions are multi-medium
scratchboard using acrylic paints which require the artist to work very
quickly. After the image is created by the removing of ‘wet paint’ she
then slows down to add detail and define certain shapes. Her colors
are vibrant and festive, the shapes are playful creating a feeling of
floating or gliding.
